Symptoms
We've had some reports of drawings saved in MSCAD 2015 crashing AutoCAD while AutoCAD is attempting to load the drawing. These symptoms also apply to embeddedCAD and Civil 3D. Error messages reported include:
- FATAL ERROR: Unhandled c0000417h Exception at 74180468h
- Error handler re-entered. Exiting now.
Applies To
The crash only occurs in AutoCAD installations that also have a AutoCAD Civil 3D Object Enabler installed, as well as in Civil 3D.
Only affects drawings that were originally created with Civil 3D, then modified and saved in MSCAD 2015.
Solution #1 - Save as Release 11/12 DWG
- Open drawing in MSCAD
- Save As...
- Save as type: AutoCAD Release 11/12 (*.dwg)
- Close drawing in MSCAD
- Open drawing in Civil 3D / AutoCAD / embeddedCAD
- Optionally save back to preferred DWG version
Solution #2 - Copy Entities to new Drawing
- Open drawing in MSCAD
- Edit Menu --- Copy with Base Point --- 0,0 --- ALL
- Create a completely new blank drawing
- Edit Menu --- Paste to Original Coordinates
- Save the new drawing
- Open drawing in Civil 3D / AutoCAD / embeddedCAD
Workaround for AutoCAD and embeddedCAD
If you're unable to open a drawing, temporarily disable Object Enablers by setting the DEMANDLOAD System Variable to 0.
From the AutoCAD help file:
DEMANDLOAD
Specifies if and when to demand-load certain applications.
If you set this system variable to 0, third-party applications and some AutoCAD commands cannot function.
