When you purchase new versions, or as new service packs and upgrades are released, you will need to update your License Key before you are allowed to run our desktop software.‚ Activating or Updating your key is a simple process.
Note: Firewalls on personal or server computers can block the License Manager. Please refer to the following topic for more information.
Activating / Updating Your Key (Method 1)
There are two ways you can update your key with the following method being the easiest. Method 1 will most likely be the method you use because most of our customers have internet access directly on the computer that the software will be run on.
Before you can update your key you will need to ensure you have:
- Internet Access - To update your key, you will need internet access on the computer your will be activating the key from. Once updated, you do not need internet access.
- MicroSurvey CAD, embeddedCAD, inCAD, Point Prep, STAR*NET‚ or IMS Map360 Installed - When you install any of these programs, a special program called the License Manager is also automatically installed. You need the License Manager to update your key.
- USB License Key - You will need to have the USB License Key that was shipped with your purchase.
- USB Port - You will need a free USB port.
- Insert your USB License Key in any available USB port on your computer.
- Go to Start | Programs | MicroSurvey | (MicroSurvey Product) and start the License Manager program.
- The MicroSurvey License Key Maintenance program will display the information about what products are licensed for the key, how many licenses you are allowed to run, and the expiry date of your Maintenance‚ Subscription Support Plan.
- To finish this step and activate your key, press the "Update Key With New Information" button. If successful, you will see a message indicating that the key was updated.
Updating Your Key Alternate (Method 2)
Method 2 should only be used if your don't have internet access on the computer you will be running your software on, or if a firewall or some other network security measure is blocking access to our online licensing database. Use this method to activate your key without installing the MicroSurvey program.
Before you can update your key you will need to ensure you have:
- Internet Access - To update your key, you will need internet access on the computer your will be activating the key from. Once updated, you do not need internet access.
- Administrative Permissions - You will need to install a program so must be logged in as a full administrator.
- USB License Key - You will need to have the USB License Key that was shipped with your purchase.
- USB Port - You will need a free USB port.
- Download MicroSurvey License Manager from this link.
- Save it to your desktop
- Run the installation by double-clicking on the newly saved icon and following the prompts
- After the installation completes, you can insert the USB License Key in any available USB port on your computer.
- Verify that the correct driver was loaded, a pop up should identify the device as "CBUSB" if it is the first time the key has been inserted and a red LED should be lit on the key. Reinsert the key, try a different port or try a different computer if the LED does not light.
- Go to Start | Programs | MicroSurvey | USB License Manager | and start the License Manager program. (Ensure you follow this step exactly)
- The MicroSurvey License Key Maintenance program will display the information about what products are licensed for the key, how many licenses you are allowed to run, and the expiry date of your Maintenance‚ Subscription Support Plan.
- To finish this step and activate your key, press the "Update Key with New Information" button. If successful, you will see a message indicating that the key was updated.
