Occasionally customers report they cannot install MicroSurvey CAD or MapScenes on their Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 computers. The error below appears and the operation fails.
Error 1714. The older version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005
Redistributable cannot be removed. Contact your technical support
group
MicroSurvey is attempting to update a Windows component before installing, and this operation is failing because of an earlier attempt to upgrade the component by another piece of software.
We have tested this solution and found that it works:
On your PC go to the Windows/Start Button
In XP:
pick run and type Regedit
In Vista/7:
type Regedit in the Search Window
Note: You are modifying the Windows Registry. Treat it with Great Caution. Making any changes other than the ones described can disable your Windows computer
Next, explode the folders you see until you locate the folder below:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\F942F94A19C0F 79468FD2B85E5E8677B
Pick on the name of the folder and rename it by adding a dash so it becomes:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\-F942F94A19C0F79468FD2B85E5E8677B
Close the Registry editor. Run the Installation again.
