MicroSurvey CAD 2010 - Current Known Issues and Resolutions

Important Note:  If you ever experience a crash when using MicroSurvey CAD 2010, if you are asked if you would like to send an error report to Microsoft, please always select Yes to send the report.  Our programmers can use these error reports to help investigate and fix crashing problems that occur within the program, even if it is a problem that is not easily reproducible.

Status: Confirmed (10.7.0)

Problem: If you open the Active Coordinate Editor, select points and pick Edit | Rotate Selection the base point of the rotation will always be the coordinates 0,0 regardless of the options you have chosen.

Solution: This will be fixed in a future update.  Please perform this operation using the RotateShiftScale dialog in the same menu.

Problem: Using MicroSurvey CAD running under a 64-bit edition of Windows Vista has the following reported problems:

  • USB License Manager does not work.  You can now download and install a 64 bit Compatible License manager from this link.
  • Training movies do not play.  You must use a 32-bit web browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox).  This is because our .SWF movies are played using Adobe Flash Player, but a 64-bit Flash Player does not exist.  The 32-bit Flash Player can be installed into 64-bit editions of Internet Explorer or Firefox but it does not work correctly.  The 32-bit Flash Player can only be used with 32-bit editions of your web browser, which can be installed into 32-bit or 64-bit editions of Windows.  Adobe has announced plans on creating a 64-bit edition of Flash Player in a future major release.  As an alternative, you can play the movies directly from our website at this link.
  • Windows - Cannot press alt-tab to switch between windows.

Problem: Rapid Transit import routine causes program to become unstable when a point with zero elevation is encountered.

Solution: This will be fixed in a future update.  For now, you can use MicroSurvey CAD 2009 as an import tool.

Problem: If you paste text from your clipboard into the MTEXT dialog (especially when copied from word processor applications), nothing appears in the drawing. But, if you switch your background to white you will then see the text.

Solution: After pressing Ctrl-V to paste the text into the MTEXT dialog, press Ctrl-A to highlight All text, then set the color to white (even if it already says it is white). This will be fixed in a future update.

Problem: Modifications to some user paths made by opening CadTools | Options | Paths/Files are not being retained once the program restarts.

Solution: Most paths will update but some paths are not customizable.

Problem: After using the ROTATE3D command, the rotated entities seem to either disappear or move to an incorrect position.

Solution: Issue a REGEN to force the entities to display correctly. This is a display problem only, the ROTATE3D command does rotate the entities correctly but they are drawn to the screen incorrectly until you do a REGEN. This will be fixed in a future update.

Problem: When using the EXPORT command to create a PDF file, some entities are not exported.  Wipeouts appear as a solid fill.  Raster images appear as an outlined border only.  Layout Viewports (and any entities shown through the viewport) do not appear at all.

Solution: Use a PDF virtual printer driver with the PRINT command to create your PDF files.  This also gives you more control over specifying your print scale, and other options such as Print Style Tables.  There are hundreds of free and commercial PDF plotters including Primo PDF Creator (free, www.primopdf.com), PDF 995 (free, www.pdf995.com), and Adobe Acrobat Writer (commercial, www.adobe.com).  These EXPORT issues will be fixed in a future update, but using a PDF print driver will still give you more control over the generated PDF file anyways.

Problem: When drawing a Curvey Leader (MsAnnotate | Add Ties and Leaders | Curvey Leader) you cannot use entity snaps beyond the first point, it causes the command to not work correctly.

Solution 1: You can currently snap only when selecting the first point of the curvey leader (the tip of the arrowhead) but not for the additional points on the curvey leader. This will be fixed in a future update, but we felt that as long as the tip of the arrowhead worked with snaps that was the only critical snap point.

Solution 2: If snapping additional points on the curvey leader is critical to you, you can use the 10.0.0 version of MicroSurvey CAD 2010 - however, this version had a problem where after drawing a curvey leader you may have to save, close, and re-open the drawing to see it properly.  (Fixing this stability issue in 10.0.0 required rewriting the curvey leader command, which unfortunately led to the problem with snapping in 10.2.0.)
