Allegro MX Freezes after Measurement

Symptom:

Users report that their Allegro MX freezes after they pick on the measurement button with irritating frequency.  In most cases, here is what is happening:

• The Allegro is connected to the instrument using a cable
• The user is interupted when doing fieldwork and the Allegro either automatically suspends itself to save batteries or...
• The user taps the power button to put the Allegro into suspend mode
• The user later powers the Allegro back on and taps the Measure button to take the next shot
• The device freezes and requires a restart

Solution:

There are a number of options to avoid this problem:

• Use Bluetooth, the issue only arises when using the cable
• Modify the power settings in Start | Settings | System | Power Options | Advanced ...and change both power options to "never."  This solution will run down your battery faster and you will still need to be aware of the procedure below if you manually suspend the Allegro.
• After powering up the Allegro when connected to the instrument, tap on the Instrument Control button in the top right corner of the Mapview screen:

  Tap "Disconnect"

  Tap "Connect"

  ...return to mapview and you're ready to go
