MicroSurvey CAD 2013 Known Issues

The following is a list of critical bugs or important limitations that users should be aware of which affect MicroSurvey CAD 2013.  It is not intended as an exhaustive list of all issues.

Important Note: If you ever experience a crash when using MicroSurvey CAD 2013, when you are asked if you would like to send an error report, please always select Yes to send the report. MicroSurvey and IntelliCAD programmers can use these error reports to help investigate and fix crashing problems that occur within the program, even if it is a problem that is not easily reproducible.

Reported: August 15, 2012

Problem: MicroSurvey CAD 2013 Ultimate is not available.

Workaround: MicroSurvey CAD 2013 was released while development efforts continue on integrating the Point Cloud components with the new IntelliCAD 7 engine. MicroSurvey CAD 2013 Ultimate will be available in an upcoming service pack. For now, MicroSurvey CAD 2013 Premium can be added to your Ultimate key (contact MicroSurvey for assistance) but users must continue using MicroSurvey CAD 2010 Ultimate for the Point Cloud features.

Solution: This has been added in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1.

Status: Fixed (13.2.3.0)

Problem: MicroSurvey CAD 2013 does not include the RENDER command and related 3d rendering funtionality.

Workaround: MicroSurvey CAD 2013 was released while development efforts continue on integrating the 3D rendering components with the new IntelliCAD 7 engine. 3D Rendering (like MicroSurvey CAD 2010) will be available in an upcoming service pack. A new alternative method of rendering in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 is available via the new "Visual Styles" feature (View | Visual Styles | ...) which renders directly in the CAD drawing area.

Solution: This has been added in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1.

Status: Fixed (13.2.3.0)

Problem: Inserting a georeferenced image using a world positioning file (.tfw, .jgw, etc) will insert the image at the incorrect scale/size.

Workaround 1: If the pixel size of your image is equal to one drawing unit (ie, if the first and fourth lines in the world file are "1") then you can correct the image size by using the ENTPROP command and changing the "Scale" value to 1, and it will then auto-correct to the appropriate value. This workaround will not work with all images because different scaling may be required.

Workaround 2: Images can be inserted correctly using MicroSurvey CAD 2010, then when opened in 2013 the previously-inserted images will still be correct.

Solution: This has been fixed in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1.

Status: Fixed (13.2.3.0)

Reported: August 15, 2012

Problem: In a drawing with a viewtwist applied in model space (ie, Surveyors View) the view through a Layout Space viewport will not be automatically rotated to match.

Workaround: In Model Space, type VIEWTWIST and note the rotation value it reports back to you. In Paper Space, activate the viewport, then type DVIEW then TWist then press Enter to select all entities, then enter the value from the previous VIEWTWIST command.

Solution: This has been fixed in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1.

Status: Fixed (13.2.3.0)

Reported: September 13, 2012

Problem: FASTAREA command (MsCogo | Fast Area by Selecting Objects) reports incorrect areas if arcs are included in the closed figure.

Workaround: Use MsCogo | Calculate Area by Point Numbers for accurate results. This routine is based on the IntelliCAD function: _boundary and it is the source of this error. The solution will be provided with a future IntelliCAD update.

Solution: This has been fixed in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1.

Status: Fixed (13.2.3.0)

Reported: November 14, 2012

Problem: Layerstate function does not allow you to save a layer state file, and may cause the program to crash.

Workaround: Currently there is no workaround available.

Solution: This has been fixed in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1.

Status: Fixed (13.2.3.0)

Reported: November 26, 2012

Problem: Text and other drawing entities can appear scrambled or distored, requiring a lot of Regens.

Workaround: Set your REGENTOOLTIP system variable to OFF as described here.

Solution: This has been fixed in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1 (the REGENTOOLTIP variable now defaults to OFF instead of ON).

Status: Fixed (13.2.3.0)

Reported: April 12, 2013

Problem: Advanced 3D rendering commands including RENDER, PCLW, etc may display a blank white or black window, without showing the rendered view.

Solution: If you are experiencing this behaviour, updating your video card's display drivers is required.  The easiest way to update your drivers is through the Device Manager in your Control Panel, but in some cases the latest drivers are only available via download directly from your video card manufacturer's website.

Status: Closed (13.2.3.0)

Reported: April 12, 2013

Problem: Advanced 3D rendering commands including RENDER, PCLW, etc. may exhibit very poor performance when rendering text entities, and in extreme cases may cause the program to stop responding or crash.

Workaround: Freezing all layers containing text entities will dramatically improve performance within the rendering, point cloud, and animation windows.

Solution: This has been addressed in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1.1 with a new display option in both the RENDER and PCLW commands to show text entities.  By default, all text is now hidden in these windows and you must explicitly enable the display of text if desired.  Displaying large numbers of text entities in these windows will continue to result in poor performance.

Status: Closed (13.2.4.12)

Reported: April 12, 2013

Problem: SAVEAS (Save As) command can cause the program to crash if overwriting an existing drawing that is currently open, instead of notifying you that the target drawing is in use.  For example, if C:\Jobs\a.dwg and C:\Jobs\b.dwg are both open, saving a.dwg as C:\Jobs\b.dwg.

Workaround: Ensure that you are not overwriting an existing drawing that is currently open.

Solution: This has been fixed in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP2.

Status: Fixed (13.3.2.1)

Reported: April 12, 2013

Problem: SAVEAS (Save As) command can cause the program to crash if saving a drawing with a different extension but with the same folder and filename.  For example, saving C:\Jobs\filename.dwg as C:\Jobs\filename.dxf.

Workaround: Ensure that you are saving either into a different folder or with a different filename.  For example: save C:\Jobs\filename.dwg as C:\Jobs\filename2.dxf

Solution: This has been fixed in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP2.

Status: Fixed (13.3.2.1)

Reported: April 19, 2013

Problem: On Windows XP computers, opening the Entity Properties panel will cause MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1 (v13.2.3.0) to bog down to an unusable state and if you examine the task manager the icad.exe process has the processor pinned at 100% usage (or 50% on a dual-core processor, 25% on a quad-core processor, etc).

Workaround 1: This issue did not affect MicroSurvey CAD 2013 (v13.0.1.3) so you may need to temporarily revert back to that version until we can fix this.

Workaround 2: This issue seems to only affect Windows XP computers so using MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP1 (v13.2.3.0) on a Windows Vista/7/8 computer will work properly.

Workaround 3: This issue is triggered specifically by opening the Entity Properties panel, so the problem can be avoided by not opening the Properties panel.  (Note: it is not known if there are any other specific triggers to avoid besides the Entity Properties panel.)

Solution: This has been fixed in MicroSurvey CAD 2013 SP2.

Status: In Progress (13.2.3.0)
