Leica DNA automatic levels store their data in gsi files. The STAR*DNA convertor can be used to convert these files to STAR*NET dat format files.
It is possible to store erroneous or incomplete data in the gsi file, and these can cause error messages to appear when running the convertor.
Below is an Example:
The Error log above was generated when the gsi file shown below was converted.
In this case we weren't able to confirm the exact cause but know that a peg test had been performed at the beginning of the leveling session. We suspect the peg test was improperly coded or improperly recorded.
According to DNA GSI specifications, the start of a leveling loop will start with the type of message shown below:
In the above example, 410015 designates the start of a leveling loop where 15 is the line number. The part of the record that appears as:
?+......1 designates that this is a "Method 1" leveling loop in which the sequence of measurements is: Backsight Foresight. If you see ?+......2 it designates that the sequence of measurements is Method 2 is Backsight Foresight Foresight Backsight, which is typically used for high order leveling. Method 1 is typically used for first, second and third order leveling. The StarDNA converter needs to read which method was used in order to correctly interpret the measurements which will follow.
In this case the problem was resolved by using "#" to comment out the section before the 4100** section:
